Did you know? (Freddie’s school life)
It took approximately two months for Freddie to travel from Zanzibar to St Peter’s Church Of England Boarding School For Boys, in Panchgani, India.
Freddie acted in many plays at school, often playing female roles.
He was good at Sports, Music and Art; a brilliant singer, boxer, pianist, table tennis player and runner.
He sung often in assemblies.
Freddie left St Peter’s on February 25th 1963 after failing his exam. He had been there for eight years.
One of Freddie’s letters home read:
“Panchgani, February 5th 1958
Dear Mum and Dad,
I hope you are all well and Kashmira’s cold is better. Don’t worry, I’m fine. Me and my friends at the Ashley House are like a second family. The teachers are very strict and discipline is most important here at St Peter’s. I’m very happy to tell that I was awarded the big trophy: Best All-Rounder Junior. I received a big trophy and they even took a photograph which will appear in the annual school magazine [see picture above]. I’m very proud and I hope you are too. Send my love to Kash. I love my little sister as I love you all, Farrokh.”
